HTC Re Vive officially announced, a vitual reality headset jointly developed by HTC and Valve

The HTC Re Vive was announced at today's HTC Utopia event, as the company's first virtual reality headset. The HTC Vive was built in partnership with popular video game developer and distributor Valve, and will take on competitors like the Samsung Gear VR and Microsoft HoloLens.

The HTC Vive pairs Valve's Steam VR tracking technologies with HTC's "world-renowned design and engineering talent" which the company hopes will be the right combination for success.

The VR headgear uses over 70 sensors and provides a full, 360-degree room tracking. You can not only look around, but walk and experience the virtual plane, as well as interact "just like you do in the real world". The Vive offers a pretty nice 90fps performance. The headgear comes with two separate VR controllers, functioning with a plethora of different "VR experiences".

The company will partner with a number of prominent game developers, like Vertigo Games, Bossa, Barry –Fireproof, Dovetail Games, Wemo Labs, Google, Steel Wool Games and Owlchemy. Other popular partners are Google, HBO, Lionsgate, and the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, all of which will provide VR content for the HTC Vive.

A developer edition of the Re Vive will arrive in Spring, while a consumer version of the wearable is expected to be arrive before the end of this year
