Download Android 5.1 factory images for Nexus devices

Android 5.1 factory images
Google recently announced Android 5.1 Lollipop, and has posted the factory images for three of its Nexus devices - the Google Nexus 5, the original Google Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi) and the Google Nexus 10. If you own one of these devices, and don't want to wait for the OTA, you can download and flash the appropriate factory images now.

Factory Images are not generally meant for the public. They should be used as a means to repair your Android device in case its software is corrupt and needs to be restored to its original state. Factory Images can also be used if your Android device is rooted, and you want to return to its stock state in order to install official OTA updates. Any reason you might have for wanting to return to stock Android is a reason to employ the factory image.

While Android 5.1 is considered a minor update to the platform, it brings some useful features. You get support for dual SIM cards, allowing multiple users to share a single phone. Security is improved as lost or stolen devices remain unlocked until the rightful owner signs in with his Google credentials. Even a factory reset won't change that. And Android 5.1 also brings HD Voice. Both sides of the conversation must be using a compatible phone, and both must use a carrier that supports the feature.

If you own one of the above mentioned Nexus devices, you can download Android 5.1 using the following links
More Nexus devices will soon get the Android 5.1 factory image, and we will update this post as soon as it happens.
