Samsung Galaxy S5 Active receives Android 4.4.4 update

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active receives Android 4.4.4 updateThe is an exclusive for AT&T and is designed for users with an active personality. On Monday, the carrier started rolling out the Android 4.4.4 update for the device which comes with the  G870AUCU1AOA1 software version and promises "Miscellaneous improvements, bug fixes, and security updates".

The Galaxy S5 Active is not the most elegant of devices, weighing 810 grams. The handset is built to survive drops, bumps and can survive a submersion in up to 3.2 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes thanks to its IP67 certification.

The Android 4.4.4 update is being pushed out OTA, and users should receive a notification when the update is available for download. Since the update is being pushed out on a staggered basis, not everyone will receive it immediately. You can try to manually get the update process started by going to Menu > Settings > More Settings > About device > Software update > Check for updates and click OK.

Samsung suggests that the battery be fully charged before the update process is begun. The manufacturer also says that the update can be postponed three times, but will automatically be downloaded and installed on the fourth try. In other words, this is a mandatory update, so there is no getting around from installing it.

Samsung is also expected to push out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 Active sometime in the near future.
