Microsoft reportedly purchases Sunrise Calendar for over $100 million

Sunrise CalendarMicrosoft has reportedly purchased Sunrise Calendar for a sum of $100 million. This free cross platform calendar app supports Google Calendar, Exchange and iCloud. You can download Sunrise on Android and iOS for your mobiles, and even on the desktop for Chrome and Mac OS X.

Microsoft will reportedly allow Sunrise to live as a stand-alone product while using some of the underlying technology to better its own products. Given that Sunrise doesn't offer any Windows apps, we may see this as an opportunity for Microsoft to bring these apps to its own platform. This is similar to what the company did with Acompli, a powerful email client which was relaunched as a new cross platform Outlook app.

It is currently not known if Microsoft plans to release a standable Outlook Calendar app in place of Sunrise or allow the Microsoft brand to be associated with popular apps on competitors stores. In any case you can still download Sunrise for the platform of your choice using the following links:
