Vivo X5 Max

The Vivo X5 Max was officially announced my the Chinese manufacturer Vivo has the thinnest smartphone in the world to date. The handset measures just 3.98mm (0.15 inches) at its thinnest point and 4.75mm (0.18in) at its thickest. The device bests handsets like the Gionee Elife and the Oppo R5 to take the coveted spot.

Manufacturing such a thin device has taken a lot of work from the manufacturer. For example, the motherboard on the device measures a mere 1.7mm (0.067 inches) thick, while the screen measures just 1.36mm (0.05 inches) and the handset comes with “the world’s thinnest speaker box” at 0.09in (2.45mm) inside. Despite its extremely thin size, Vivo has managed to add dual-SIM capabilities and retain the 3.5mm headphone port on the device.

In terms of hardware, the Vivo X5 Max features a 5.5 inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13 megapixel rear camera, a 5 megapixel front camera, and a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. A separate Yamaha YSS-205X chip handles the sound on the device. On the software front, the Vivo X5 Max runs the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat with the company’s own FunTouch OS 2.0 on top.

The Vivo X5 Max will go on sale in China on December 22 for RMB 2998 ($486).
