Gionee Elife S5.1 officially announced with a 5.15mm thin frame

Chinese vendor Gionee has just unveiled its newest Android handset, the Gionee Elife S5.1 as the successor to the Gionee Elife S5.5, which was known for its extremely thin frame. The new handset manages to break the former record (5.5mm), by offering a 5.15mm (0.2") thin frame.

The handset has dimensions of 139.8 × 67.4 × 5.15 mm (5.5 x 2.65 x 0.2 inches) with its sides carrying the maximum thinness, while the upper and lower sides are slightly wider - possibly in order to accommodate the micro-USB port and headphone jack.

Aside from being fashionably thin, the Gionee Elife S5.1 is a compact and beautiful phone with more refined look compared to its predecessor. Alas, the trade-off is that Gionee has opted for mid-range internals for one reason or another - possibly to not strain the 2100mAh battery it somehow managed to fit in its chassis.

The AMOLED display has been reduced to 4.8 inches from 5.0 inches by diagonal, and the resolution reduced from 1080p to 720p, resulting in a pixel density of 306ppi. You also get 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera. and a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 with 1GB of RAM.

On the software side, you get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with with Gionee's own Amigo 2.0 interface on top. The Gionee Elife S5.1 will start selling this month in China, but the price hasn't been revealed.
