Samsung Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T receives software update

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T is now receiving a software update OTA (over-the-air). It may not be the Android 4.4.4 update that users want, as the phone will remain on Android 4.4.2, but you do receive various user interface changes and improvements.

The software update brings the G870AUCU1ANG3 build version and Samsung claims it is a large update, so users are advised to ensure their batteries are fully charged and that they are connected to Wi-Fi before initiating the update.

According to Samsung's support page, the update has the following new features and improvements

• Visual Voicemail (VVM) enhancements
• Security updates and patches
• Application installation enhancements
• Accidental emergency dial fixed on the lock screen
• Several lower layer modem crashes and sluggishness improvement enhancements
• E-mail UX enhancements
• Re-activation lock improvements

The accidental emergency dial and the modem crashing issues can be quite tiresome for users, so you are advised to download the update as soon as you can. With the standard Samsung Galaxy S5 still running Android 4.4.2, we are not certain when the newer version of Android will rollout to Samsung's lineup. The company could be thinking of skipping the interim builds in favor of the Android L update later this year.
