Meet this $100 Windows 8.1 tablet

One of the biggest issues with purchasing a Windows tablet is its price. But what if you could buy a full Windows 8.1 tablet for just $100? Well a Chinese company called Emdoor has just unveiled such a device at the Computex trade show in Taipei, Taiwan.

Meet the Emdoor EM-i8080, a Windows 8.1 tablet which features an 8 inch display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, 16GB of SSD storage which can be expanded through microSD and an Intel BayTrail Atom Z3735G processor. The tablet has ports for MicroUSB and Mini HDMI, along with what is described as an entry-level camera and stereo speakers. It is supposed to have a 18.5 Wh battery, but there's no word yet on how long its charge will last in the tablet.

While you may not experience a stellar Windows desktop experience on this device, it is a true testament to the low prices that manufacturers can achieve with Windows 8.1 with Bing. This special (cheaper) version of Windows is given to OEMs, with Bing set as the default search engine. Owners can change Bing to any other search engine after they purchase the product.

There's no word on when this tablet will be released, but it's likely that Emdoor will offer this product to other companies that will rebrand it and sell it with different names later in the year.

Would you consider purchasing a $100 Windows tablet? Or would you prefer a more powerful (and expensive) device to replace your laptop?.
