Google I/O 2014 Roundup - Android L, Android Wear, Android TV and more

The Google I/O 2014 conference is kicking off today (June 25) at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. During the event the company is expect to unveil a brand new version of Android which is expected to carry an 'L' dessert name, along with updates on Android Wear, Google TV and more.

[UPDATE] [JUNE 26 2014] Google I/O 2014 is only two days long this year, but the company has packed in several announcements on their first day's keynote. Google spoke about the how Android would make its way across our phones, wearables, chromebooks, TV and automobiles giving users a seamless experience across everything they do.

The next version of Android was definitely the highlight of the announcement. Android "L" as it is being referred to as for now, brings a brand new "Material Design" user interface, revamped notifications, updated web search, "Project Hera" multitasking, "Project Volta" battery management and more.

Android Wear

The only hardware announced on the first day of I/O 2014 came from LG and Samsung, two Android powered wearables that connect to your Android device and offer timely updates and notifications. Google gave a demonstration of Android Wear, which offers Google Now style cards, app integration and voice control. Both wearables are now available for purchase through the Google Play Store.

		Android Wear is Google's platform built for smartwatches and other wearable gadgets. It was shown off on an LG G Watch and on a Motorola Moto 360. Learn all about the new platform and new devices it will be offered on.

		LG G Watch - Here's all you need to know
		The LG G Watch is a wearable accessory which runs Android Wear. The device features a 1.65 inch touch display, a 400 mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage, a 1.2GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and weighs 63 grams.

		Samsung Gear Live - Here's all you need to know
		The Samsung Gear Live is a wearable accessory which runs Android Wear. The device features a 1.63 inch touch display, a 300 mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage, a 1.2GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and weighs 59 grams.

One smart watch or the other is also the only thing Google gave away at the keynote. A Moto 360 is coming in the mail later this summer, but there was very little news about that device.

Android Auto

Android is coming to cars, and soon with Android Auto. 40 OEMs and 25 car makers have signed on to work with Android Auto, and the first vehicles will be rolling off assembly lines this year. Android Auto is driven by your phone, so you just connect it and all the things you care about – navigation, messaging, music, voice, and apps are all on the in-car display.

Android TV

Google has made several attempts to infiltrate our living rooms with Google TV, Chromecast and now its latest addition, Android TV. This is a platform for watching video and playing games. Android TV has all of Google's services built into the core so you get robust voice search, and your games from Google Play will transfer over.

		Android TV - Here's all you need to know
		Android TV is coming as a follow up to Google TV and is now ready to compete with the likes of Amazon's Fire TV and Apple TV. It brings the ability to play your games along with all your content from your Play Store.

There will be Android TV boxes and TV sets with the software built-in. Google's developer preview box runs on a Tegra 4, but there will be a variety of hardware specs. The thing they'll all have in common is a killer big screen UI. Android TV will be out this fall alongside Android L.
