Xiaomi MiPad tablet officially announced, first to feature NVidia Tegra K1 chip

The Xiaomi MiPad was officially announced during a special event in Beijing by the company's CEO Lei Jun, who said that the company had been planning a tablet for quite some time now and his company has Apple's iPad on its crosshair.

The Xiaomi MiPad dimensions measure in at 202.1 x 135.4 x 8.5 mm, and the tablet tips the scales at 360 grams. It features a 7.9 inch Sharp display with a crisp 2048 by 1536 pixel resolution, which results in a pixel density of 324 ppi. You get options of either 16GB or 64GB of internal storage, with the option of expanding it by an additional 128GB through microSD. The tablet comes with an 8 megapixel Sony manufactured camera on its rear, and a 5 megapixel, f/2.0 camera in front. You get a generous 6700 mAh battery keeping the device running and a set of stereo speakers on its rear for entertainment. The device is powered by a 2.2GHz NVidia Tegra K1 "4+1" processor with its 192-core kepler graphics chip and 2GB of RAM..

The MiPad will be available in six different colors and is priced at a very affordable CN¥1,499 ($240 equivalent) for the 16GB Wi-Fi version, and CN¥1,699 ($270 equivalent) for the 64GB Wi-Fi model. At this time, it's unclear whether Xiaomi is planning on releasing a model with 3G/4G support. Also unknown is the exact release date, though we do know that the MiPad will enter an open testing phase in June, allowing early adopters to pick up the device and help shape the final product.
