T-Mobile announces "Operation Tablet Freedom"

T-MobileT-Mobile has announced "Operation Tablet Freedom," which CEO John Legere says is "a full-on assault against the restrictions and pain points imposed by the greedy carriers."

This announcement follows yesterday's "Simple Starter" plan introduction, which offers users unlimited talk, text and 500MB of data.

T-Mobile's new tablet plan offers 1GB of free data for tablets owned by T-Mobile's customers with a calling plan. That is added to the 200MB of free tablet data offered by the carrier to all tablets, bringing the total amount of free data to 1.2GB for T-Mobile's voice subscribers. In addition, T-Mobile will now sell LTE enabled tablets for the same price as the Wi-Fi only version of the same device.

That means that a 16GB LTE enabled Apple iPad Air would cost $499 at T-Mobile, instead of $629. You can also trade in your Wi-Fi only tablet to buy one with LTE connectivity, for nothing down. Lastly, if you are stuck in a contract with a carrier, you can split for T-Mobile and with a trade-in, the carrier will pay your ETF.
