Microsoft Office 365 Personal will be available for individual users

Microsoft OfficeMicrosoft Office 365 is available for general users for $99 per year. For what you pay you get the entire suite of Microsoft Office on up to 5 Windows or Apple computers, plus up to 5 mobile devices.

However it seems Microsoft now understands that not everyone needs an Office licenses for so many computers and mobile devices, so they have newly introduced Microsoft Office 365 Personal.

Microsoft Office 365 Personal will offer all the features offered to Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium Users (soon to be rebranded as Office 365 Home). This means you will have access to all the Office apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Outlook and OneNote. You will also get the additional 20GB of storage on OneDrive for up to 5 users each and 60 minutes of Skype calls per month.

However Microsoft Office 365 Personal will only cost $69.99 per year (or $6.99 per month) and the license can only be used on a single computer and a tablet. This means you can install Microsoft Office on your home computer and a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet for example. Basically getting you two computers set up with Office for $70 per year.

Buying the latest version of Microsoft Office outright could cost you $400, making the Office 365 deal a valuable investment. Especially since the Office 365 license will allow you to update to future versions of Office at no additional cost.

However we still wonder if the asking price of Office 365 Personal justifies the reduced functionality over the Home edition. Still for individuals without several devices, all those extras do not pose a lot of value for $99 per year.

So if you are looking for an affordable way to use the latest version of Office, you can grab your copy of Microsoft Office 365 Personal this spring.
