GMail for iOS updated (3.0) with support for background updates and more

GMail for iOS has been updated to version 3.0 which includes the ability for the app to upgrade in the background. This feature was introduced for iOS app with the iOS 7.0 update. Background updates were allowed because Apple had designed a way to make sure all apps updated at the same set intervals rather than anytime they wanted which would be a drain on battery life.

GMail for iOS has always offered push notifications, but now the app will also automatically sync all of your messages, including the read ones so they are faster to open when you launch the app.

Additionally after the update, signing into your your Google account once in the Gmail app, will sign you in and sync across all Google apps on iOS (Maps, YouTube, Chrome, Drive, etc). So, you won't have to sign-in to each app individually.
