Google Nexus 5 receives Android 4.4.1 software update

Google has now starting rolling out the Android 4.4.1 software update for their Google Nexus 5 flagship smartphone. The update is being pushed out to devices OTA (over-the-air) and is also available to manually download and install for those who wish to.

The update is meant to improve the camera performance on the Nexus 5 and will include faster camera app launches, faster autofocus, improved colors and exposure, an a new progress bar when shooting an HDR+ photos. The update is also expected to bring other bug fixes and performance improvements, but an official change-log has not yet been released.

Update rollouts from Google can take anywhere up to about two weeks to get to everyone. But, if you are comfortable with side-loading the update, it can be yours right now. All you have to do is grab the update file from the source, and follow the same instructions as were used for sideloading the KitKat update on Nexus tablets. 

The only thing to check is that you must be running stock Android 4.4 build KRT16M to install this update. If you are, then you're good to go.
