[Android app] WiFi Passport

Not everyone around the world has access to a good cellular data connection. This is where Google wants to step in. They are working on making Wi-Fi internet access an easier thing to obtain in the absence of a cellular solution in Jakarta.

If you live in Jakarta, you can download the app directly on your device through the Google Play Store or by using the following link:

Requirements Android 2.2 or greater

In order to bring Wi-Fi hotspot access to Android users, Google has teamed up with MOGPlay to set up a range of hotspots across Jakarta that can be accessed by buying a plan via the Wi-Fi Passport app. There’s even a free option, should that be what you're looking for. In fact, users can get 10 days-worth of connectivity for the price of absolutely nothing.

If you want more data access, Android owners can pay 20,000 IDR (below $2) for 20 days and 50,000 IDR (less than $5) for 50 days of access, which can’t be bad at all.

While the free Wi-Fi access would benefit users everywhere, it is something that is extremely useful i developing countries. Currently it seems Google only has eyes for Jakarta as part of this limited testing period.

With the continuous growth of smartphones, and Google's aim to bring technology to the masses, it is great to see the search giant bringing the internet to the masses.
