Google purchases the popular data sharing app Bump

Bump is a quick and easy way to share your data between mobile devices. The Bump apps are available on both the Android and iOS platforms, allowing Bump users to share their files between the two platforms. As of yesterday the Bump team announced that they were now part of team Google.

The Bump team is responsible for the app of the same name, which began as an easy way to share contacts on iPhones, but has expanded to share data between devices running both iOS and Android.

Bump also makes a social photo app called Flock, which allows users to share photos with specific groups.

The Bump team had the following to say regarding the acquisition:

We strive to create experiences that feel like magic, enabled behind the scene with innovations in math, data processing, and algorithms. So we couldn't be more thrilled to join Google, a company that shares our belief that the application of computing to difficult problems can fundamentally change the way that we interact with one another and the world. 

Bump and Flock will continue to work as they always have for now; stay tuned for future updates.

There is no news on how Google plans to use Bump nor is there news on how much was paid to purchase the company.
