T-Mobile announces its "Boldest Moves Yet" with Jump, LTE, plans, devices and more

T-MobileT-Mobile's  "Boldest Moves Yet" event took place today in New York City today with CMO John Legere taking the stage to present some new announcements from the carrier. Among the announcements which T-Mobile calls Un-carrier 2.0 they presented their 'Jump' phone upgrade program, a new family plan which doesn't require a credit check, upcoming availability of devices like the Sony Xperia Z and Nokia Lumia 925 and expansion of their 4G LTE market.

JUMP!

The Jump upgrade program allows T-Mobile customers to upgrade their phone when they want, up to twice a year. This program includes total protection for your device against damage, loss, theft or malfunction for $10 per month. Previously phone protection cost $8 a month, and now for an additional $2 a month you have the option of upgrading your device twice per year.

In the case that you choose to upgrade your device (eligible and is good working order) which is currently on an (EIP) Equipment Installment Program, the remaining cost of the previous product will be wiped out and you will have to pay for your new device through a similar EIP (usually $99 up front and $20 per month). In the case that you device is physically damaged, you will have to pay a deductible before you are put into a new EIP.

Additionally the carrier has teamed up with Samsung, where users can make a video or photo sharing what can happen over a course of 730 days (24 months) which can lead you to want to trade in your device. You can enter by liking the contest Facebook page or by posting your story with the #Hate2Wait hashtag. T-Mobile will select 730 winners who will receive a brand new Samsung Galaxy S4, while one grand prize winner will get a year of free service from the carrier along with having their creation used in an official T-Mobile advertisement.

T-Mobile JUMP!

Simple Choice Plan for All Families - Families can get four Simple Choice Plan lines with unlimited talk, text and Web and up to 500MB of high-speed data for only $100 per month (plus taxes & fees) with no credit check and no annual service contract required.

T-Mobile claims that one in three families can't get "the best wireless rates" because of poor credit scores, and so the company is going to remove the need for credit checks on family plans. Individuals will still need to have a credit check run in order to sign up.
