Nokia Lumia 1020 officially announced

The Nokia Lumia 1020 was officially announced today during a special event held in New York, finally putting a rest to all the rumors and speculations. The device combines the pixel oversampling of PureView Phase 1 from the Nokia 808 PureView with optical image stabilization (OIS) of PureView Phase 2 from the Nokia Lumia 920 which results in an all new experience with the Lumia 1020.

The 41 megapixel backside illuminated 1/1.2" sensor has 3x lossless zoom (up to 6x for HD video), six-elements lens with ZEISS optics, second generation OIS suspension for shake-free videos and blur-free low-light photos that can compensate for up to 500 movements a second.

The oversampling feature combines 7 regular pixels into one super pixel which will result in amazing ultra sharp and crisp 5MP PureView photos which can be easily shared on your favorite social network. Even through the evolved floating lens technology will take care of your low light photos, Nokia has included a Xenon flash for even better low light photos. The Nokia Pro Camera will also be a great addition to the newest Lumia with professional shooting modes and controls like shutter times, ISO, manual focus and exposure settings enhancing your photo experience.

The oversampling technology is now also used in video, resulting in the highest quality videos which can even be zoomed while recording. There is an additional LED light for video recording to help light up low light conditions. Nokia has also brought over the stereo Rich Recording technology with HAAC mics, which should make for the best-sounding video footage from any phone.

Additionally the Lumia 1020 features a 4.5 inch PureMotion HD+ display with a ClearBlack filter, Gorilla Glass 3 and a 768 by 1280 pixel resolution. This results in expect blur-free visuals, high contrast ratio, low reflection and super sensitivity which allows operation with gloves. The display also features a high 600 nits brightness mode which is common in Nokia's newest flagships and offers great sunlight legibility.

The handset measures 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm and weigh 158 g, which makes it thinner and lighter than the Lumia 920, despite its huge image sensor. Nokia has achieved this by separating the wireless charging as a separate accessory. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and you have a 2000mAh battery is good for seven hours of video playback and 13 hours of talk time, so it's right up with your typical flagship endurance.

Nokia Camera Grip

Nokia also announced a new accessory for the Lumia 1020, the Nokia Camera Grip. The Nokia Camera Grip is a snap-on shell for the Lumia 1020 and its designed to make the device feel more like a camera during use. It features a two-stage shutter key which makes it easier to focus and compose each picture and an additional 1020mAh battery which should boot the device battery life by an additional 50%. It also features a threaded receptacle which allows you to mount your smartphone to a tripod.

The Nokia Camera Grip will be available in yellow, black and white to match your Lumia 1020 and will be available alongside the device for and additional $79.

Availability

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in the U.S. exclusively through AT&T before the end of this month. The Lumia 1020 will be available in yellow, black and white at launch. You can pre-order the device as early as July 16 and it will cost you $299.99 with a two-year contract.

Nokia hasn't revealed too much about its international availability of the Lumia 1020., They did however claim that the handset will launch across China and key locations in Europe during the Q3 of 2013. Telefonica is also said to have an exclusive version of the Lumia 1020 which is will offer not only in Europe but also in Latin America.
