[Guide] How to root your Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the best smartphones in the market and it isn't surprising that developers and enthusiasts were quick to gain root for superuser access to the device. Rooting your Galaxy S4 comes with many benefits including the ability to install custom ROMs of your choice to the device.

This guide will show you how to root your Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9505/I9500) using the CF-Auto-root method by Chainfire.
[NOTE] This guide will show you how to root the Samsung Galaxy S4 with the I9500 and I9505 only. Please make sure you have either model by heading to Settings > About device > Model before you continue.

1. Download and install Odin v3.07
   -
2. Download CF-Auto-Root-Galaxy S4
   -
3. Connect your device to your computer via USB cable
   -
4. Boot into Odin Download Mode
• Power off device
• Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
• Press Volume Up button when warning prompt.
• Finally, Galaxy S4 Odin mode will be loaded.

5. Extract the CF-Auto-Root .tar.md5 file to the Odin3 folder.

6. Run Odin and click PDA
   -
7. Select the .tar.md5 file and click Start
   -
8. Wait for Android to be loaded to your device and then remove the USB cable
