Asus FonePad - Hands On Video

The Asus FonePad features a 7 inch IPS touch display with a 800 by 1280 pixel resolution which offers great viewing angles, up to 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 3.2 megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture, a secondary HD camera for video calls, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Atom processor with 1GB of RAM.

Its hard to tell the that the device is powered by an Intel processor unless you see the prominent logo on the rear, as it capably runs  as any ARM based tablet would.

The FonePad is well built with a sturdy anodized aluminium chassis and a metallic finish which gives it a rich premium feel. The tablet has a hidden compartment at its top which houses its microSD and micro SIM card slots. The SIM card is not restricted to data, and like its name you can use the FonePad to make phone calls. While we don’t think there will be many users who will find it appealing to make calls with such a large device to their ears, we are confident that users will appreciate being able to use one device for multiple functions

The tablet comes in a 10.4 mm thin frame and weighs at a reasonable 340g. It has noise cancelling mics to ensure crisp voice quality and comes loaded with the Sonic Master surround tech for fuller sound from its speakers.

At $249 you are getting a tablet with the ability to make phone calls, and while it wont fit in your jeans pocket, its affordability and premium build will find it a fan base.
