Sony Xperia Z officially announced

The Sony Xperia Z is now official following its announcement at the Sony Press conference at CES 2013. The manufacturer has also announced that the device will be released starting March, giving users a chance to enjoy some of the great specifications that this handset has to offer.

The Xperia Z features a 5 inch 1080p HD display, a 13 megapixel Exmor RS camera, NFC, microSD storage, a 2330 mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Additionally the Xperia Z is water resistant up to one meter which is achieved by glass panels in the front and back and plastic strips on the sides which protect the ports.

The Xperia Z will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on launch and Sony has promised to upgrade to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean “soon after launch”. However we are expecting to see Google announce their next version of Android before the launch of the Xperia Z and we would have liked to see this device running the newest version of Android.

Sony has also included other software enhancements like ClearAudio+, Bravia Reality Display and the Bravia Engine 2. All of which work to enhance the multimedia output of the device. The Xperia Z will also have a Battery Stamina mode which automatically kills all background processes and apps when the display is switched off, which in turn will offer up to “four times longer standby” according to Sony. We are curious how this would affect the multi-tasking feature of Android.
