Panasonic unveils ToughPad FZ-G1, world's thinnest and lightest rugged Windows 8 tablet

Panasonic has announced the ToughPad FZ-G1, which is described as the world’s thinnest and lightest rugged tablet which runs Windows 8. The device features a 10.1 inch IPS touch display, Intel Ivy Bridge processor and 3G or 4G connectivity. Users will also have the options of replaceable extended batteries, cradle docks, 360-degree handle cases and digitizer pens.

Panasonic ToughPad FZ-G1The thin and light description obviously is in reference to rugged tablets of its class and not all tablets, as the device does feature a layer of protection which makes it visually similar to the Panasonic ToughPad A1 which was unveiled last year. The tablet has a 120 cm shock resistance which should protect the device from general accidental drops.

The company also announced the Panasonic ToughPad B1, which is a 7 inch variant of the ToughPad A1 and the stated that they were also working on a 7 inch Windows 8 rugged tablet along with 5 inch models for both operating systems. The new tablets will be made available worldwide, hopefully over the course of this year.
