LG Optimus 2X is receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software update, but only in Korea

The LG Optimus 2X has been facing some controversy for its on off position on receiving the Android ICS update. Now LG has informed their users that the ICS update is currently being tested and will be released for Korean handsets. However LG has not stated if or when the update will be available for other regions.


The Optimus 2X was the first device to feature a dual-core processor. This may not seam like a big deal today considering there are a few quad-core handsets in the market, and that dual-core seams to be the minimum requirement for most handsets to get ICS. But the Optimus 2X turned quite a few heads when it was first released.

When ICS was first announced everyone who owned a Optimus 2X would have been convinced that they would receive it. But LG has continued to delay the update first stating that the device will not receive Android 4.0 and later contradicting that statement saying that ICS will eventually arrive on the device.

While Optimus 2X users who want the latest version of Android are probably enjoying custom ROMs by rooting their device I am sure they would like to get the official ICS update.

Meanwhile the T-Mobile G2X which is the U.S. variant of the LG Optimus 2X will probably remain on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
