Bing Maps to get Nokia Branding

Looks like it isn't going to be all take from Nokia as Microsoft may be getting ready to take something big from their mobile partner. In a recent interview, Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop said that Bing Maps will be getting the Nokia Branding in the near future.

This comes as quite a surprise as Microsoft has been working hard to bring their Bing branding as a strong competitor to Google's services. Companies like Research in Motion (RIM) have agreed to use Bing Maps on their BlackBerry devices and it would be strange to see a competitor's branding (Nokia) on their mapping solution.

"Part of the relationship we established with Microsoft is that we are clearly placing a bet on the Windows Phone platform. [In return] they are placing a bet on our location-based platform: mapping, navigation and so forth," 

"In the time ahead, what you will see is, across all the Microsoft properties including Bing maps, more and more work will be done by Nokia."

RIM is not the only company which will have to deal with this, Bing Maps is the default mapping solution on Windows Phones. It would be interesting to see how other OEMs deal with this news.
