HP discontinues webOS device manufacturing

webOS fans will be disappointed to find out that HP will no longer manufacture devices with run the WebOS operating system according to an announcement they made today. They have stated that the plan to discontinue the operations for webOS devices such as the TouchPad and webOS phones. They have stated that they will explore their options with the webOS software.

It is really disappointing to see an operating system like WebOS be brought to this state. While it is unclear what HP plans for WebOS in the future, there are possibilities of licensing to other manufacturers, coupling it alongside Windows or release laptops running webOS. With the Google Motorola partnership, there are chances that some of the other manufacturers like HTC or LG may be interested in widening their device portfolio. Samsung has their BADA operating system but they too may be eager to give webOS devices a shot.
