Symbian Anna web browser

Symbian Anna web browserAn update was announced to the Symbian OS, code-named Anna which promised various improvements to the mobile operating system. One of the major targets of this update is the Symbian web browser which will be updated to version 7.3 and promises to offer a faster and easier web browsing experience.

As the demand for a more 'desktop like' web browsing experience increases in smart-phones, we see the smartphone OS manufactures improve their browsers to meet this demand.

Symbian Anna offers a new UI which looks to have taken tips from what Nokia offered on their Mozilla based browser on the Maemo platform on the Nokia N900

The new browser has an updated version of webkit and a Javascript engine which has been optimized further for Symbian, claiming a 30% faster performance. it even has an improved HTML5 performance.

The portrait QWERTY keyboard is another welcome feature for Symbian users, making it much easier to type in a URL and quickly browse while using your device.

A personal favorite of mine is the ability to copy a link from a webpage. You can copy by long pressing on the link which you want to copy, which will cause the menu to pop up.

Do you feel the Symbian OS is taking the steps it needs to become relevant once again in this ever competitive mobile market. Leave your comments on what more you will like to see in updates to come.
