New 12.6MP camera-phone sensor from OmniVision

OmniVision has unveiled a new 12.6MP sensor (OV12825) for camera phones which is capable of shooting HD video at 1080p at 60 frames per second (fps). The sensor is also capable of capturing still images with a resolution of 4224 x 3000 pixels at 15 fps. The sensor has back illumination which provides best in class pixel performance in low light.

OmniVision is known for being the manufacturer of the camera on the Apple iPhone 4, it would be interesting to see if Apple chooses to go with this or a similar sensor from OmniVision of be use Sony's 8MP back-lit sensor as it is being rumored.
