The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 features a 4.0 inch display, 1GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8 megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture and is powered by a 1GHz processor with 384MB of RAM.

[NOTE] This guide is specifically aimed at users of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i.

[NOTE] Remember to follow the steps carefully. This guide will not be held responsible if you brick your phone.

[NOTE] Rooting is not recommended by the Phone Manufacturer who will also likely not take responsibility to the damage you may cause to your device.

[NOTE] X10a users. This device requires some additional steps and i would recommend you check with XDA- Developers for a guide for your device

Step 1: download the following files
http://rapidshare.com/files/403892144/ROOT_F2v1.rar.html
Or
http://hotfile.com/dl/51439105/08944..._F2v1.rar.html
And
http://hotfile.com/dl/51430503/3734556/i_R1FA16_ft.rar.html

Step 2: Switch off your X10i

Step 3: Hold the “Back Button” and connect your device to the PC. (SEUS Drive will be installed)

Step 4: Finding your deviceID
There are two methods to do this.

Method 1
  • Go to 'Run' Command in Windows (Windows Key+R) and type 'regedit'.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_0FCE&PID_ADDE

You should see numbers like '5&3********0&3'. There may be more than one entry here.
Copy one of the numbers.

Method 2

  • Open 'i_R1FA16_ft' folder, from your downloaded file and run '1st.cmd'

You will get a popup window with the devicedID (Numbers like '5&3********0&3'.There may be more than one entry here. Copy one of the numbers.

Step 5: Go to 'i_R1FA16_ft' folder, that u downloaded, open 'Step 1' and open 'DeviceID.txt'.

Step 6: Replace the series of numbers in the 'DeviceID.txt' , with the ones you copied.

Step 7: Copy the 'DeviceID.txt' and paste it in Step 2 and Step 3 folders. (These two folders can be found in the “ROOT_F2v1” folder , that you downloaded.

Step 8: Switch off your phone, disconnect the cable and remove the battery for a minimum of 5 seconds.

Step 9: Start 'X10flash.bat' (Open 'i_R1FA16_ft' folder and 'Step 1' folder)
You will see a command prompt, with the message 'please connect X10 in flash mode. Press any
key to continue'

Step 10: Put the battery in, hold the 'back' key and connect the cable to the pc. When the green indicator
light switches on, press 'enter' in the command prompt and let it do its thing. Once completed,
you can close the command prompt.

Step 11: Remove the cable and switch on the Phone.(If you don’t remove the cable, the phone won't
switch on.

Step 12: Enable 'USB Debugging' on your phone. If you don’t enable it, you cannot proceed with the
Rooting. After this you can connect the cable again.
Menu -> Setting -> Applications -> Development -> enable USB Debugging

Step 13: Run 'Step2.cmd' from 'ROOT_F2v1' folder and select the sixth option- 'update from sdcard' on
your phone. Do not close the command prompt. You will see a 'processing' message on your
phone. Once the message disappears and the options buttons are enabled, close your command
prompt. But do not press any of the option buttons on your phone. The phone will
automatically restart. Let it do its thing. It will restart 4 times during this process before
rebooting back.

Step 14: Run 'Step3.cmd' from 'ROOT_F2v1' folder and let it do its thing until it reboots back.

Now check the 'about phone' settings , the build number will be 'R2BA020' and you will have root access. and you have updated your firmware to the latest version from SE.

Your X10 has been successfully rooted!!!

Errors you may encounter during X10 flashing process:
Error 1:

INFO: start
java.io.IOException: Unable to open channel, GetLastError=0
at com.sonyericsson.cs.usbflashnative.impl.USBFlashNa tiveImpl.openChannel(Native Method)

If you get this error you have added WRONG device ID. If you have more than one device id then copy one of the other ids & redo the process.

But if u have only one ID, then reinstall SEUS one more time. After this is done you should find your Device ID!

Removing unwanted apps
One of my favorite features of rooting my device was the ability to remove some of the apps i felt was useless. For this you need a app by the name of root explorer (Google it)
install root explorer.
Navigate to system folder on your phone.
There will be a button on the top right hand corner. Once you press the button, you will have read and write permission.

After that you can just select the files that you don’t need and remove them. REMEMBER do not delete any system files.

Files that i was happy to remove
• Moxier mail
• Quadropop game
• Play now video player
• Office suite (trial)
