Nintendo Wii

The Wii is a gaming console designed and manufactured by Nintendo. It was announced on September 14, 2006 and launched in the US on November 19, 2006 and in the UK on December 8, 2006. The device features the Wii Remote which is a handheld controller which detects movement in three dimensions. The Wii also features WiiConnect24 which allows owners to receive messages and updates over the internet while the device is in standby mode.

The original Wii is backward compatible with the GameCube but the Nintendo Wii Family Edition which was released in late 2011 removed that compatibility.
